About Us

This is what the Lord says, "Stand at the crossroads and look: ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." Jeremiah 6:16
Our mission is to partner with the Christian community of southern Africa in addressing the needs of the region, particularly those created by the AIDS pandemic and crushing poverty. Efforts are focused in four areas: Spiritual, Agricultural, Educational and Micro-economic Development.

Projects are piloted in Botswana in partnership with local people. Then with the assistance of those who help plan and implement the projects, the knowledge gained and lessons learned are taken to their neighbors, not only in Botswana but in the surrounding countries. These countries include Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. South Africa is not included in this list due to the strength and maturity of the Christian witness there.

Africa Crossroads is a ministry of African Mission Services (a registered 501 (C) 3 Christian service organization in the USA, operating in Botswana as a registered trust) and the churches of Christ.

Where We Are

This ministry is based in Kasane, located in the north-eastern corner of Botswana at the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi rivers. Kasane is the governmental headquarters for Chobe District. Since it is a major safari “leap off” point for the Chobe, Savute, & Moremi game parks and the Okavango Delta, Kasane has an international airport with direct flights from Botswana’s capital, Gaborone and Johannesburg, South Africa.

The neighboring village of Kazungula lies a few kilometers east on the main north/south road which ends at the ferry crossing of the Zambezi River. Kasane and Kazungula have a combined population of about 7,000 people and serve as the major overland crossroad for four countries: Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. An average of 10,000 semi trucks per month cross the ferry headed as far north as the DRC.

Kasane is the geographic center of the region. Five hours to the south by good paved road is Francistown, the second largest economic center in Botswana. Kasane is served by a microwave based phone system. In addition to access to commercial flights, the airport makes it possible to utilize the services of Flying Mission, a missions flight organization operating in both Botswana and Zambia. Thus its central location, excellent logistical resources in communication, transportation, availability of goods and, the stability and efficacy of the Botswana government, make Kasane one of the best places for working in the region. The name of this ministry is derived from the fact that Kasane serves as a major crossroad for the region.
